Dokubo Accuses Tinubu of Betrayal After He Helped Him Become President

Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has publicly accused President Bola Tinubu of betraying him after he dedicated substantial resources to support Tinubu’s presidential campaign in the 2023 elections.

In a viral video, Dokubo expressed his frustration and disappointment, claiming he invested heavily in canvassing votes for Tinubu but feels abandoned in the aftermath.

Dokubo recounted how he emptied his bank account to ensure Tinubu’s success, saying, “President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him.” He lamented that the Tinubu he now sees is not the same person he supported during the campaign.

In his address, Dokubo urged Nigerians to hold him accountable if Tinubu fails to deliver on his promises as president.

He also reflected on past alliances, stating, “I apologise to our fathers because they were not wrong in allying with the North, and as young men, we will now start that same alliance.”

He announced his intention to form a new alliance with northern leaders, emphasizing a strategic shift away from cooperation with the Yoruba people, whom he described as having betrayed the Ijaw people.

“We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us,” he asserted, highlighting his sense of disillusionment with Tinubu’s administration.

Dokubo’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some Niger Delta leaders who feel marginalized in the current political landscape.

He criticized the perceived neglect and called for a renewed partnership with the North, suggesting that only northern leaders could effectively work with the Ijaw community.

This public outburst comes as political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various factions reassessing their alliances and strategies.

Dokubo’s statements have already garnered significant attention on social media, where discussions about political loyalty and betrayal continue to unfold.
