President Bola Tinubu on Monday announced the nomination of Saseyi Ibiyemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) representing Ondo State and Abdulrazak Tukur as a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
In a statement titled *‘President Tinubu Nominates New REC, National Commissioner for INEC’*, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed the announcement.
If approved by the Senate, Ibiyemi, who is currently the Administrative Secretary for INEC in Lagos State, will replace Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away in August while serving as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun State.
Ibiyemi, 58, hails from Ilaje in Ondo State and has a distinguished career in election management. She graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. Ibiyemi also holds a Master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University in Nasarawa State.
Meanwhile, Abdulrazak Tukur, 59, has been nominated as the INEC National Commissioner for the North West.

Tukur holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University and a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, as well as a Master of Arts from Leeds University, both in the United Kingdom.
Tukur’s career with INEC dates back to 1999 when he began as an assistant chief administrative officer. He rose through the ranks to become the Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, a position he held until his retirement in December 2023.
Both nominees are now set to undergo Senate confirmation, after which they will officially take on their new roles within the electoral commission.
