Police Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims, Arrest 5 Suspects in Nasarawa

Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have successfully raided a kidnappers’ hideout, arresting five suspects and rescuing 14 victims from captivity in the state.

The operation took place on Monday, November 4, in Achido village, a forested area located along the border of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kogi State.

The police operatives, attached to the Toto Division, carried out the raid in collaboration with local youths. According to a statement from the police command’s public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, the operation was triggered by a tip-off regarding suspicious movements in the area.

The rescued victims were primarily from the Kuje and Rubochi areas of Abuja, as well as the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State. Among those freed were Adamu Abdullahi, Musa Ahmed, and Auwal Adamu, all of Kuje, FCT, along with Hussaini Yakubu, Haruna Usman, Jibrin Bature, Isyaka Yakubu, Sule Bello, and Yusuf Yusuf, all from Lapai, Niger State. Additional victims rescued were Yusuf Tashai and Kabiru Iliya from Rubochi, FCT, and Sabo Yakubu, Sagir Iliya, and Yunusa Danladi from Tanshi village, Kuje Area Council, FCT.

DSP Nansel revealed that the five suspects arrested were responsible for supplying food and other essential items to the kidnappers hiding in the forest. The arrested individuals were identified as Shuaibu Garba, Umar Mohammed, Yakubu Kasim, Mustapha Adamu, and Abdul Mohammed.

“The suspects confessed to being responsible for the supply of food to the kidnappers in the forest,” DSP Nansel said in the statement.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Nasarawa State Police Command to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.

Commenting on the operation, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to working with the community to combat crime.

“The command’s commitment to continuously partner with members of the community to rid the state of crime, and urged the public at all times to say something when they see something,” Commissioner Nadada stated.
