The Anambra police, CP Nnagbe Obono Itam has reiterated the call for the profilling of the members of local vigilante Operatives in the state for effective community policing.
CP itam made the call following the recent arrest of an armed man who claimed to be a member of the vegilantw operatives.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday revealed that the suspect, Enediong Bassey, a 25-year-old native of Ikono LGA in Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended after confessing to being a member of a local vigilante group.

The statement read, “Police Operatives attached to 3 3 Police Divisional headquarters led by CSP Emeka Obi acting on credible information on 22/11/2024 by 6:38 pm arrested one Enediong Bassey ‘M’ 25yrs a native of Ikono LGA of Akwa Ibom State and recovered one Pump action gun wrapped in a bag of rice at Nkwelle – Ezunaka.”
Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to being a member of a security outfit/vigilante and revealed that he was attempting to flee with the gun to join his criminal gang, where he intended to participate in armed robbery and other illegal activities.
The statement further noted, “Given the above and following other complaints and unprofessional conduct by some security outfits and vigilante members, the Commissioner Of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam in line with the principles of Community Policing reiterates the calls for profiling of security operatives assisting the Police and other security agencies on anti-crime operations to improve safety in the State.”
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-robbery squad for further investigation.
