The House of Representatives on Thursday announced a reshuffling of its standing committees and the creation of two additional ones.
The newly established committees are the House Committee on the South West Development Commission and the House Committee on the North Central Development Commission.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who made the announcement, stated, “Akin Adeyemi and Tunji Olawuyi will serve as chairmen of the South West and North Central Development Commissions, respectively, with Clement Akani and Donald Ojogo as their deputies.”
He explained that the formation of these committees was necessitated by the recent enactment of laws establishing the regional commissions. “There is a need for effective oversight of their activities,” he added.

Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, Mustapha Ghali, Garba Saleh Zock, and Tajudeen Adesojee were appointed chairpersons of the Humanitarian Services, Ethics and Privileges, Culture, and Aviation Technology committees, respectively.
In a historic move, Speaker Abbas declared that February 13 will now be observed annually as Murtala Mohammed Day in honor of the late former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Mohammed.
To mark this decision, the House observed a minute of silence in remembrance of the late leader.
