Sebastien Haller chooses GOAT

Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastian Haller has chosen his Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) between Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Haller sided with Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al-Nassr, over Messi, who is the captain of Inter Miami.

Speaking with GOAL, Haller was asked a series of questions where he had to choose between two footballers.

When asked to choose between Messi and Ronaldo, the 29-year-old was initially reluctant to choose one, saying: “Ahh, come on! Here we go again.

“Honestly, I would say Ronaldo,” he added.

The GOAT debate between Messi and Ronaldo has been a topic of discussion among football fans for over a decade now.

Several top footballers have given their opinions, with Haller the latest.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund’s Sebastien Haller says he hopes to inspire cancer patients the world over after scoring his first competitive goal following his own battle with the disease.

Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after joining Dortmund from Ajax in July 2022. The 28-year-old striker underwent two surgeries and chemotherapy in the ensuing months, before getting the green light to link back up with his teammates on their return to training on 2 January 2023.

After featuring in a winter friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf and scoring a hat-trick against Basel, Haller made his competitive comeback on Bundesliga Matchday 16, playing 28 minutes of a 4-3 win over Augsburg.

He assisted the winning goal for fellow substitute Gio Reyna in Mainz three days later, before making his first start in the Matchday 18 win away to Bayer Leverkusen.

The France-born Ivorian retained his place in the side for the visit of title rivals Freiburg on 4 February, known globally as World Cancer Day.

He marked the occasion with Dortmund’s third goal in a 5-1 win – his first in all competitions for the club – before pointing to the defiant ‘F**k Cancer’ slogan he has had sewn into his custom boots in celebration.

BVB also added a lump on the centre circle before the match, and during the half-time break, to raise awareness of testicular cancer.
