The Bauchi State Police Command has yet to issue a statement on the Assistant Superintendent of Police, kidnapped by gunmen in Toro town, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The police officer was said to have been kidnapped on Friday night when gunmen stormed the town and started shooting sporadically into the air.

The incident caused pandemonium in the town as residents scampered for safety.

It was learnt that the gunmen stormed the town at about 9pm in their numbers, shot into the air, causing pandemonium among the residents.

They eventually kidnapped the ASP whose full identity is not known and took him to an unknown destination.

The member representing Toro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on Ecological Funds and Great Green Wall, Ismail Dabo, who condemned the incident and called for calm, described it as unfortunate and regrettable considering the current economic situation.

However, more than 48 hours after the incident, the State Command has yet to make a statement on the incident.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, did not respond to enquiries on the matter.
He did not reply a message sent to him on WhatsApp.
But a source in the town told our correspondent on Sunday evening that the kidnappers of the Police Officer had yet to contact the family or make any demand.
“As of today, the whole town is calm with everyone going about his normal business. But we have not heard any news from the kidnappers of the police officer who was abducted on Friday night. We just pray he’s safe and he will return to us in good health,” he stated.
