Iconic Boxer Muhammad Ali to Receive WWE Hall of Fame Honor

Boxing icon Muhammad Ali, famously known as “The Greatest,” is set to be honored with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024. This prestigious recognition comes ahead of this year’s WrestleMania festivities in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, scheduled for April 5, as reported by foreign news outlet Variety on Monday.

Muhammad Ali, a three-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and Olympic gold medalist, left an enduring mark on the world stage. His captivating performances in the ring mesmerized audiences globally, but his influence extended far beyond sports. Renowned as an activist, artist, and larger-than-life personality, Ali’s legacy remains unparalleled.

One of Muhammad Ali’s notable moments in sports history occurred on June 26, 1976, during “The War of the Worlds” exhibition match against Antonio Inoki at the Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo, Japan. This event, watched by 32,000 spectators in attendance and countless more via closed-circuit television, is often regarded as a precursor to modern mixed martial arts, highlighting Ali’s visionary impact.

Despite retiring from boxing with an impressive record of 56-5, including 37 knockouts, Ali’s involvement in combat sports continued. He played a pivotal role as the special guest referee for the inaugural WrestleMania in 1984, officiating the main event between Hulk Hogan & Mr. T and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff. Ali’s signature right-hand punch to Piper restored order and left an indelible mark on the event.

Ali’s passing on June 3, 2016, at the age of 74 marked the end of an era, but his legacy as one of the greatest athletes of all time lives on. The induction into the WWE Hall of Fame serves as a fitting tribute to his enduring impact and contributions to the world of sports and entertainment.
