Security Intercepts Vehicle with 610 Rounds of Ammunition in Katsina

Operatives of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) successfully intercepted a vehicle carrying a large cache of ammunition in Batsari Local Government Area, Katsina State. Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the operation in a statement released on Wednesday.

According to Dr. Mu’azu, the interception occurred on Tuesday at approximately 7:30 PM in Batsari town. Acting on credible intelligence, KSCWC members stopped a commercial vehicle with the registration number BTR 45 XA.

During a routine stop and search at a checkpoint, they discovered a hidden stash of ammunition under a seat in the vehicle. The cache included 610 rounds of ammunition for AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) rifles, as well as two magazines.

Dr. Mu’azu detailed the operation, saying, “A significant security operation was carried out by our men on September 10, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM in Batsari town.

Acting on credible intelligence, members of the Community Watch Corps intercepted a commercial vehicle with registration number BTR 45 XA, which was carrying 17 passengers—13 females and four males, including the driver.”

He continued, “During a routine stop and search at a checkpoint, the corps discovered a cache of ammunition hidden under the seat, which was later found to contain 610 rounds of ammunition for both AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) rifles, along with two magazines.”

The commissioner also noted that the suspect, described as wearing white voile clothes, exhibited suspicious behavior throughout the journey. “He initially insisted on sitting at the rear of the vehicle and appeared visibly uncomfortable and anxious when the vehicle was stopped for inspection,” Dr. Mu’azu explained. “The suspect managed to evade capture, leaving behind the concealed ammunition.”

Dr. Mu’azu emphasized the state government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security under Governor Dikko Radda’s leadership. “The state government is committed to maintaining peace and security across Katsina State,” he assured. “We will continue to support and enhance the capabilities of our security apparatus to combat all forms of criminality in the state.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Batsari is one of the top local government areaBatsari is among the top local government areas plagued by insecurity.

Governor Dikko Radda commended the Community Watch Corps for their vigilance and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting and enhancing the capabilities of security agencies in the fight against criminality in the state.
