APC Candidate Okpebholo wins Edo Governorship Election

Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Edo State governorship election, defeating his main opponents, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).

The results were announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Kuta, at the collation centre in Benin City, Edo State’s capital, on Sunday.

Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, outpacing Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, while Akpata finished third with 22,763 votes. Prof. Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared, “That Okpebholo, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Results from all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) showed that Okpebholo won in eleven LGAs, defeating both Ighodalo and Akpata. Edo State, divided into Edo North, Edo South, and Edo Central, traditionally sees APC dominance in Edo North, while PDP controls Edo Central and Edo South.
