Bandits killed Katsina Governor’s aide and Wife

Katsina, Nigeria – In a shocking and tragic development, the Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Sanusi Gyaza, a close aide to Governor Dikko Umar Radda, by suspected bandits in the Gyaza community of Kankia Local Government Area.

The incident occurred late on Friday, August 16, leaving the state in a state of mourning and raising further concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the region.

The police spokesperson in the state, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday, August 18, assuring the public that the force is actively pursuing the perpetrators and is “on top of the situation.”

Sadiq did not provide further details on the ongoing investigation but expressed the police force’s commitment to bringing the culprits to justice.

Sanusi Gyaza, who was the former chairman of the Kankia Local Government branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, was at home when the bandits stormed his residence in the quiet Gyaza community.

According to sources, the attackers were specifically targeting Gyaza. During the attack, one of his wives was also killed, while the other was abducted by the assailants.

The brazen attack has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing fear and outrage at the growing insecurity in the state. Katsina, located in the north-central region of Nigeria, has been grappling with escalating violence, including kidnappings, banditry, and other forms of criminal activity. This latest incident further underscores the perilous security situation in the region.

This attack coincides with another alarming incident the same day, in which the Commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra State, Patrick Mba, was kidnapped by gunmen in Kogi State. Mba was reportedly traveling to Abuja for a wedding event related to Governor Charles Soludo when he was abducted.
