Nigeria has been plunged into darkness following yet another collapse of the national electricity grid on Wednesday afternoon.
The development came just weeks after multiple grid collapses in October, despite the Federal Government’s assurances of implementing a permanent solution to the recurring challenge.
Posts by netizens on various X accounts confirmed the grid collapse, which occurred at about 2:06pm.
“The major grid setback has occurred and the restoration is to commence,” one of the social media users said.
Furthermore, in a statement, the Jos Disco confirmed the collapse, saying: “The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this afternoon at about 1333 hours of today, Wednesday, 11th December 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”
Meanwhile, the Abuja Disco in a statement disclosed, “Dear Valued Customers. We wish to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 1:32 pm today causing a power outage across our franchise areas.
“While gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, be assured that we are coordinating closely with relevant stakeholders to restore power fully as soon as the grid is stabilised.”
As of the time of this report, efforts to restore power to affected areas were underway. Further details about the cause of the collapse and the progress of restoration were expected to be made available soon by concerned authorities.
