Burna Boy Launches Football Academy in Nigeria

Nigerian singer and Grammy Award winner Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ogulu, has officially launched a football academy, named Burna Boy Football Academy“.
According to the now-trending video on social media the training centers are established to nurture young talented football players from the early age of 4 and 15, as well as those between 16 and 21 providing a comprehensive training program that emphasizes both football skills and education.

Furthermore, the academy’s website, also revealed that their vision is to create a conducive environment for training.

“We aim to create an environment where kids can learn the fundamentals of football, combined with education, discipline, and technique, to excel in life beyond the sport”, the academy’s vision on their website read

It continues by stating, “We strive to engage parents in sports education, emphasizing its importance alongside academic pursuits. We believe this holistic approach is not only possible but essential for our children’s future success. The academy also mentioned that the training sessions for students are held three times a week, with each session lasting two hours.

Furthermore, the website also emphasizes the academy’s core values, stating “We are committed to delivering exceptional coaching and personalized mentoring when necessary, ensuring that each child enjoys the learning process. We acknowledge that parents are the primary educators and seek your support in allowing our coaches to guide your child’s development. Discipline is a priority in our academy, and we strive to maintain a balance between nurturing and challenging our young athletes.”

Moreover, to ensure comprehensive education, experience, and career pathways for its students, the academy has established partnerships with several prestigious football clubs. These include top-tier English Premier League teams such as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Brighton & Hove Albion. The academy also collaborates with Championship side Watford and Scottish clubs Hearts and Hamilton, creating a robust support network and opening up valuable opportunities for its players.

The academy has two centers in Lagos—located in Lekki and Surulere—as well as one center each in Abuja and Port Harcourt. The initiative appears to have been operational for some time, as the academy’s website lists results from seven friendly matches, which include four wins, two losses, and one draw.
