Davido announced on Thursday, December 5, that his fifth studio album, titled 5ive, will be released in 2025.
The Nigerian-American superstar shared the news on X, revealing that a single from the album, titled “Funds,” would be released at midnight. The track features Nigerian artists Odumodublvck and Chike.
In his announcement, Davido described the upcoming album as a reflection of his personal journey and growth as an artist.
He tweeted, “My People! THE JOURNEY CONTINUES in 2025 with my new album, 5IVE!! This one is straight from the heart – my story, my truth, my growth.”
He continued, “WE NOT WAITING THOUGH! Tonight at midnight I’m dropping a single ‘Funds’ with @Odumodublvck_ & @Officialchike.”
The track, which samples South African singer Brenda Fassie’s 1997 classic “Vuli Ndlela,” had already been performed by Davido alongside Odumodublvck during his birthday concert at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Rolling Stone reported that “Funds” is a celebration of the hustle and the journey.
Davido explained, “Working with Odumodublvck and Chike on this track was magic. They brought their own unique energy, and together we created something special. This song isn’t just about money – it’s about the mindset, the struggle, and the rewards that come with staying true to your grind. It’s a vibe that resonates across cultures. And with 5ive on the way, I’m bringing that same energy – African pride, global sound. We’re just getting started.”
The track opens with a nostalgic touch as “Vulindlela” plays softly in the background. Odumodublvck sets the tone with his commanding voice, before Davido’s unmistakable “Shekpe!” signals the party vibe. Chike adds his smooth vocals, creating a song that feels like a celebration of joy and abundance.
“Funds” follows Davido’s recently released single “Awuke” featuring YG Marley. Talking about his inspiration for the new track, Davido said, “This one’s for the dreamers, the go-getters, and everyone chasing what’s theirs! Thank you for riding with me. Let’s make history again!!!”
Lyrically, “Funds” radiates confidence and positivity, with lines like “Okay girl, make I show you my bank account, I get plenty to go around, so make you dance when you hear the sound.” The track is bold, uplifting, and designed for the dancefloor.
