EFCC declares socialite Aisha Achimugu wanted for alleged money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared businesswoman and socialite Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu wanted for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

The announcement was made through a circular released on the EFCC’s official X handle on Friday, as confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale.

The EFCC’s circular reads:

“The public is hereby notified that Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.”

According to the commission, Achimugu, who is 51 years old, hails from the Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, and her last known address is 6C, Rudolf Close, Maitama, Abuja.

The EFCC further urged anyone with useful information about her whereabouts to contact the commission. The agency’s offices in cities like Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, and Abuja were all listed as points of contact.

Additionally, the EFCC can be reached via 08093322644, info@efcc.gov.ng, or the nearest police station or security agency.

This development comes just 12 days after a report revealed that the EFCC was preparing to declare Achimugu a fleeing suspect after she failed to attend an interview at the commission’s Port Harcourt office on March 5, 2025.

The interview was scheduled in relation to her involvement in an alleged money laundering case and a high-profile investment scam.

The letter, dated March 4, was signed by the EFCC’s acting zonal director in Port Harcourt, Adebayo Adeniyi, and sent to Achimugu’s residential address in Abuja.

The letter read:
“This commission is currently investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain clarification from you becomes imperative.

“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to attend an interview with the undersigned through the Head of Investigation on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, by 10:00 hours prompt.”

However, instead of reporting to the EFCC office as instructed, it was reported that Achimugu had traveled out of Nigeria on Thursday, March 6. In response to her alleged departure, the EFCC obtained an arrest warrant and subsequently declared her wanted.
