Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Hon. Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye as the Acting Chief Judge of the state, following the death of the former Chief Judge, Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, on Monday, November 4, 2024.
Justice Ogunmoye’s appointment, which took effect on November 5, 2024, was made in accordance with Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended). Ogunmoye, born on November 6, 1963, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987 and became a judge on April 1, 2010.
Governor Oyebanji wished Justice Ogunmoye a successful tenure as Acting Chief Judge and expressed confidence in his leadership.

Justice Adeyeye, who passed away after a brief illness, was fondly remembered by the Chief Registrar of the Ekiti State Judiciary, Olanike Adegoke, as a “respected jurist” who dedicated his career to advancing fairness, equity, and justice.
Adegoke also paid tribute to the late Chief Judge, acknowledging his lasting contributions to both the judiciary and Ekiti State, noting that his legacy would be deeply missed.
