FG Lists Six Free CNG Vehicle Conversion Centres in Lagos

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced on Thursday via his official X account that the city will host a free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion event starting Friday, September 13.

This initiative is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), aimed at transforming Nigeria’s transportation sector.

The free CNG conversion service will run from 3 PM to 6 PM at six designated locations across Lagos. Under the “Operation First Come, First Serve” program, the first 50 vehicles at each location that pass inspection will receive free CNG conversion kits.

Vehicle owners will benefit from refueling at ₦230 per SCM of Compressed Natural Gas at any NIPCO station, significantly reducing fuel costs compared to petrol.

The authorised CNG conversion centres in Lagos are:

  • Femadec: Km 42, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Majek Second Gate Stop, Abiju Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.
  • Portland: No. 1, Ojota Interchange Terminal, Bayo Shodipo, Ojota, Lagos.
  • Mezovest: KM 23, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ajah, opposite Kilimanjaro, beside Libmat Motors, by Abraham Adesanya Bus Stop.
  • Dana Motors: Dana Motors Ltd Kia Plaza, 117 Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Isolo, Lagos.

In addition to the Lagos event, the PCNGi will also conduct Compressed Natural Gas conversion exercises in other cities. On Friday, September 13, similar events will take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Ibadan, Oyo State, from 3 PM to 6 PM. The following day, Saturday, September 14, Abuja and Kaduna will host their own conversion events during the same hours.

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023, aims to revolutionise Nigeria’s transportation sector by introducing over 11,500 CNG-enabled vehicles and providing 55,000 conversion kits for petrol vehicles.

The initiative is designed to facilitate a gradual transition from petrol to Compressed Natural Gas, promoting a more affordable and environmentally friendly fuel alternative.
