Ailing Ondo state chief executive Rotimi Akeredolu may soon return abroad to continue his medical treatment, sources close to the governor have informed Quest Times.
According to the report, associates of the governor and his family members who are worried about his health and inability to resume office since arriving in Nigeria last month are prevailing on him to return to Germany to complete his medical treatment.
After three months of medical treatment abroad, the governor returned to Nigeria on September 7, but rather than go to Akure, the Ondo state capital where he has his official quarters; he has been staying in his private residence in Ibadan in Oyo state and running the affairs of governance from there.
It was gathered that the governor’s decision to stay in Ibadan was to allow him to heal, as more pressure would be on him if he resumed work at the Alagbaka Government House.
A source quoted in the report said:
“The governor has not fully recovered when he returned to Nigeria in September. He was forced to return by those who felt his deputy, whom he handed over to, was making moves to hijack the government. That was the major reason for his coming back to the country.
“Since his return, he has not resumed work in Ondo Government House but staying in Ibadan where he is being looked after. From information I gathered, those who love him are asking him to return abroad and be medically fit and I think that is what the governor will do in the coming days.

“His associates hurried him to return so as to take charge of the government and remove the embattled deputy governor. But with the intervention of the national leadership of the party, that impeachment may not happen soon.
“With the governorship election around the corner, it remains to be seen if those surrounding the governor will allow him leave. He will not want to handover to his deputy except he has a new one. Any further vacuum may create tension within and outside the government”.
