The Kwara State Government has pegged the fee for the 2024/2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination at ₦30,250 for each student in the senior secondary school final class in public schools across the state.
The breakdown of the fee, as explained by the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, includes ₦27,000 for WAEC charges and ₦3,250 for e-registration and administrative costs.
Modibbo-Kawu made the announcement on Wednesday during an address to the principals of all senior secondary schools at the floating exercise that marked the commencement of WAEC registration at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin.
A statement from the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, confirmed the details and was shared with PUNCH correspondents in Ilorin on Thursday.
The statement noted that the commissioner warned school principals to avoid extortion during the registration process.
“We have warned the principals to shun extortion during the registration, saying whoever is found wanting would face the consequences of such an act,” Modibbo-Kawu said.
She further emphasized that the Ministry would not tolerate any extra charges beyond those officially approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development. “We are warning them against all acts that can dent their images during the examination,” she added.
The Commissioner also commended the principals for their continued contributions to securing the future of the state by nurturing the next generation of leaders. She thanked them for maintaining good working relationships with the Ministry to enhance the quality of education in Kwara.
In her remarks, Modibbo-Kawu called for the support of the principals for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, which, she said, is committed to the welfare of teachers and citizens.

The Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, also spoke at the event, praising Governor AbdulRazaq for advancing the education sector in the state. He noted that the current administration had improved teachers’ welfare significantly.
Mrs. Olanrewaju Bake, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, also commended the Governor’s efforts in revamping the education sector, urging teachers to remain committed to their responsibilities.
Earlier, Mrs. Adewuyi Victoria, the Director of the Curriculum and Assessment Department, outlined the detailed breakdown of the approved registration fees for WAEC 2024/2025 as follows:

In addition, the President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, Kwara State Wing, Mohammad Baba, also praised Governor AbdulRazaq for improving the education system. Baba highlighted the rehabilitation and construction of schools across the state, as well as the timely payment of teachers’ salaries and promotions. He assured that teachers in the state would continue to work diligently to justify the confidence placed in them by the state government.
