LASTMA Launches Whistle App to Report Traffic Violations

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a new initiative aimed at empowering residents and passengers to report reckless driving and traffic violations across the state.

The agency introduced the Whistle app, a technology designed to aid in the swift reporting of traffic issues.

In a statement issued on Monday, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, highlighted the significance of this technology in addressing traffic challenges in Lagos.

“This pioneering application empowers Lagos residents to report reckless driving, traffic violations, one-way contraventions, and other disruptive occurrences directly to LASTMA,” Adebayo stated.

He explained that the app allows users to report incidents such as traffic jams, accidents, or hazardous vehicles directly to LASTMA personnel.

“Whether navigating a traffic snarl, witnessing an accident, or encountering a hazardous vehicle, users can seamlessly alert nearby LASTMA personnel,” he added.

Adebayo emphasized that the agency would act promptly upon receiving reports from users.

“Upon receiving such reports, the agency will respond swiftly to address the situation, whether by decongesting traffic, managing accident scenes, or removing obstructive vehicles. This will thereby foster a safer and more efficient commuting experience for all,” he said.

The LASTMA director also noted that Lagos’ traffic woes were often worsened by drivers who ignore traffic regulations, run one-way routes, and cause disruption for other road users.

“Traffic woes in Lagos are often aggravated by drivers who flagrantly disregard traffic regulations, ignore signals, take one-way routes, and infringe on the rights of other road users,” Adebayo stated.

He urged the public to cooperate with LASTMA in ensuring safer roads, particularly during the festive season.

“Once verified, our teams will deploy necessary resources to address these issues promptly. The public is urged to collaborate with LASTMA in cultivating safer and more orderly roadways throughout the state. Let us join forces to alleviate traffic bottlenecks and ensure a smooth and enjoyable festive season for everyone,” he concluded.
