LAUTECH students protest death of colleague in Oyo

HUNDREDS of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State have protested the alleged killing of their colleague by a security agent and injuring two others.

A source from Ogbomoso told Vanguard that two students of the institution were allegedly shot by a policeman who was trying to stop a quarrel that broke out.

Following the unfortunate incident, the students trooped out on Tuesday to protest the death of the student. The major road that links Ogbomoso to Ibadan and other parts of the state was blocked by the angry students.

The source further stated that the policeman fired warning shots when the atmosphere became rowdy and in the process stray bullet hit one of the students and injured two others.
Another source narrated that the two guys were alleged cultists and it was one of them that shot the other dead.

On an X handle, @eclat_media247, he said, “All school (LAUTECH) gates locked, according to report, a policeman was called to settle a squash between two people. Instead of him to settle the fight or arrest them, he shot sporadically into the air, one student died and two reportedly injured.”

Another X user, confirmed the incident and posted a video noting,
“A brother that came to celebrate his brother at his convocation ceremony at LAUTECH yesterday was reportedly shot dead by a police officer. Protest is currently going on in the School premises now”.

The source further said, “The affected officer had his picture all over the internet during the EndSARS saga, he was one of the arrow heads of the disbanded SARS officer who terrorised the students community in LAUTECH Ogbomoso.

Though, convocation of the institution is ongoing, students of the institution insisted that the ceremony should be paused and attention is given to the incident.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso was yet to pick calls as of the time of filing this report.
