Mohbad: Reps call for Justice, artist protection

The House of Representatives Tuesday called for justice in the matter of late music artiste, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos) on the need for justice and safeguarding the legacy of Mohbad who died under questionable circumstances in Lagos.

Benson lamented the lack of protection for artistes who, he said, are often coerced and frustrated through signing of “unscrupulous agreements.”

He said the circumstances that happened to Mohbad, upon leaving his record label at the Marlain Record, exposed the “unfavorable contractual agreements suffered by so many upcoming artistes.”

He called on the House to monitor the allegations and investigation around the circumstances of the death, and review contract laws in the entertainment industry for the good of the wider public.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Aloba described how the deceased and his wife tricked her into staying with them because of the anguish he was going through.

About two weeks ago, Mohbad passed away, and his passing has sparked debate.

The appropriate authorities exhumed Mohbad’s body as a result of the controversy surrounding his passing.

In contrast, Mrs. Aloba told some journalists in the singer’s home: “I don’t tell people that I’m Mohbad’s mother because he was worried I might be abducted.

He promised to build up a company for me and took me from Iyana to Ikorodu. However, I’m unable to stay in Ikorodu once more, therefore I requested that the shop be rented out out of fear.

“My child never seemed to enjoy himself; he was usually terrified whenever I visited; and he had trouble falling asleep since he would be breathing heavily. They typically report to the police station.

“I stayed in his home for ten days without knowing he would pass away; I just departed on Saturday without knowing he would pass away on Monday. He was pleading with me not to go, but when I told him I had to go to church, he agreed. He was tricking me into staying, along with his wife. Due to the fact that he never intended me to leave, he has not paid me my meal allotment.
