The National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited more foreign schools in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This move is part of NECO’s effort to extend its reach and provide quality education and assessment internationally.
A statement released by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, on Saturday, confirmed that an accreditation team had visited the schools to assess their preparedness to conduct both examinations.
“The Accreditation Team inspected Classrooms, Laboratories, Libraries, Computer Laboratories, workshops, Examination Halls and Sports facilities to determine their adequacy and suitability for NECO Examinations,” Sani said.
Following a detailed inspection and evaluation, the newly accredited schools were granted full accreditation status for both SSCE and BECE. “After a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, the schools were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status,” Sani added.
This accreditation of additional foreign schools is a testament to NECO’s commitment to expanding its global footprint. Sani emphasized, “The accreditation of additional foreign schools is a testament to NECO’s commitment to providing quality education and assessment beyond the shores of Nigeria.”

The inclusion of these new schools brings NECO examinations to more countries, joining Benin Republic, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia. NECO has thus expanded its reach across Africa and beyond.
In another significant development, NECO candidates are currently participating in the ongoing SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic.
The UNHCR School in Diffa has become the first-ever NECO SSCE External Centre located outside Nigeria. This is a landmark achievement for NECO’s international growth.
Sani further noted, “With its expanding global presence, NECO is poised to become a leading examination body in Africa, offering opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise, thus contributing to the advancement of education in Africa and beyond.”
Through its efforts to accredit more foreign schools and expand its presence globally, NECO continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing educational opportunities for students beyond Nigeria’s borders.
