Nigerian Police Charge VeryDarkMan to Court for Wearing Police Uniform

The Nigeria Police have announced that social media influencer and blogger Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, is scheduled to appear in court to face charges of impersonation.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command will oversee the prosecution, which is set for today, Friday.

In a statement released on its X account, the Police emphasized their dedication to maintaining the integrity of their symbols and preventing any misuse.

The arrest sparked a lot of comments from netizens as many took to social media to condemn the Nigerian police action.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police later responded to widespread reports stating the reasons for Verydarkman’s arrest and detention.

In an Instagram post, the Nigerian Police clarified the situation. The statement confirmed that VeryDarkMan has indeed been arrested and is currently in detention, with plans for him to face charges in court for impersonation.

“In light of recent events, VDM, appeared in court today on the allegations of impersonation linked to the unauthorized use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video.

The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse. Interested persons are encouraged to follow up on the proceedings as the case unfolds,” the statement read.

Following his arraignment for impersonation on Friday, social media commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has been granted bail set at N2 million, accompanied by two sureties of equivalent value. The court has mandated that VeryDarkMan surrender his international passports and any other forms of identification.

The bail conditions provided by VDM’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, read: “Two million, two sureties in like terms. Sureties to deposit international passports, sureties to provide means of identification. Sureties to depose to affidavit to provide the defendant during trial at all times. Prosecutor to verify sureties’ address. Sureties to provide utility bills, defendant to depose to affidavit to be available at all times during trial. Sureties to reside within the Court’s jurisdiction, particularly Abuja municipal.”
