Obasa Storms Lagos Assembly, Declares: “I’ve Resumed and Remain the Speaker”

In a dramatic turn of events, Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, made a bold return to the assembly complex this morning, stating he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.

According to sources, Obasa arrived at the Assembly complex around 12 noon on Thursday, accompanied by a team of security officials. He entered the Speaker’s office, marking his first return to the legislative house since his removal on January 13, 2025.

This sudden development follows the recent withdrawal of security aides assigned to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, this morning.

The withdrawal of security personnel was confirmed by Segun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Meranda, who accused Obasa and his team of allegedly “breaking into” the Speaker’s office during the dramatic re-entry. Ajiboye further emphasized that the action was a breach of the office’s sanctity.

Upon his arrival, Obasa declared confidently, “I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” asserting his claim to the position he held for several years before his ouster.

Obasa dramatically returned with police and operatives from the State Security Service (SSS), signaling the intensity of the power struggle within the Lagos State House of Assembly. This latest development could lead to a new round of political unrest as both factions within the Assembly brace for what may unfold in the coming days.

While tensions rise, it remains to be seen how the current Speaker, Meranda, and the Assembly members will respond to the reassertion of Obasa’s leadership.
