One killed, another injured in Benue Gov’s convoy vehicle crashes

The convoy of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, was involved in an accident on Sunday that resulted in the death of one man and left another injured.

The incident occurred in Ihugh, located in the Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.

According to sources, the accident was caused by dust from the untarred road, which impaired the visibility of vehicles in the convoy.

A source told our correspondent, “The governor has been in his local government (Vandeikya) for almost four days now for the Christmas celebration. Yesterday, he was going to the church, and his vehicle was at the front, followed by other vehicles. One of the vehicles in the convoy veered off the road because the dust on the untarred road blocked the driver’s visibility. It then collided with a motorcycle. One person died, and others sustained injuries.”

Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, clarified that the incident occurred some time after the governor had been in church.

While acknowledging that the vehicle involved was part of the governor’s convoy, Iorpev explained that the vehicle was not in the convoy at the time of the accident.

He said, “The vehicle was alone on a mission when it got involved in an accident, and this was caused by dust. The road is very dusty, and there was an oncoming vehicle in the opposite direction. While trying to avoid the oncoming vehicle, the vehicle rammed into a motorcycle, which caused the accident.”
