An embassy official reported on Thursday that shots were fired outside the tightly guarded American embassy in Lebanon, but no one was hurt.
“Small weapons fire was reported close to the U.S. Embassy’s entrance at 10:37 PM local time (Wednesday).
“Our facility is secure, and there were no injuries. Police in the host country are in close communication with us, according to Jake Nelson, the embassy’s spokeswoman.
The American embassy is situated in Awkar, a suburb of Beirut, the country’s capital.
An unidentified shooter with a machine gun reportedly opened fire at the embassy entrance, according to local media.

The 1983 bombing of the American embassy in Beirut, which left 63 people dead, including 52 Lebanese and American personnel, was commemorated by the embassy in April.
