Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has approved a N200,000 monthly maintenance allowance for principals of secondary schools across the state.
The announcement was made during the Sokoto State 2025 Citizens Budget Discussion, which took place on Monday at the Sultan Abubakar Maccido Institute of Quranic and General Studies.
In his remarks at the event, Chiso Abdullahi, the former deputy governor of Sokoto State, appealed to the governor for funding to assist school principals in addressing the immediate maintenance needs of schools.
Abdullahi emphasized that the funds would help principals repair minor damages to infrastructure and other essential items without having to wait for prolonged approval processes from the government.
He added that the allocation would enable schools to quickly mobilize carpenters, masons, and other necessary workers to carry out repairs when required.
Reacting on behalf of the governor, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed that the governor had approved the requested sum.

“Before I call the next speaker, let me inform this honourable gathering that the governor, in line with the appeal made by the former deputy, has approved N200,000 for each school principal every month. The payment will commence in January 2025 and will cover all secondary schools across the 23 local government areas of the state,” Bawa said.
Additionally, Governor Aliyu Sokoto has instructed the state commissioner for local government affairs, Dadi Adare, to urgently review and adjust the allowances for traditional rulers in the state.
This follows a request by Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, the district head of Kilgori, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at the discussion.
Kilgori appealed to the governor for improved allowances to better reflect the current economic realities.
