President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar 2023 presidential campaign, as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Bwala, a lawyer and prominent public affairs analyst, joins the administration with a significant background in communication and media strategy. The Presidency described him as “a lawyer and notable public affairs analyst.”
In addition to Bwala’s appointment, President Tinubu also announced the appointments of three new Directors-General for key government agencies.
The new appointees include Mr. Olawale Olopade as Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Abisoye Fagade as Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and Dr. Adebowale Adedokun as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
Olopade, the new head of the National Sports Commission, brings years of experience in sports administration. He previously served as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State and was the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Dr. Abisoye Fagade, who now leads the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, is a marketing communication professional. He is also the founder and Managing Director of Sodium Brand Solutions, a notable marketing firm.
Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, previously served as the Director of Research/Training and Strategic Planning at the Bureau.
The appointments come as part of President Tinubu’s continued efforts to strengthen key government agencies with experienced leadership. In his statement, President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officials to discharge their duties with “dedication, patriotism, and excellence.”

Bwala’s appointment follows his earlier remarks in January 2023, where he expressed his openness to serving in any capacity if called upon by the president.
At the time, he emphasized that his support for Tinubu’s administration was not driven by the prospect of an appointment.
Bwala had also previously switched allegiance from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the lead-up to the 2023 elections. However, he made it clear that he was committed to supporting the success of Tinubu’s administration, stating, “If supporting the president would take me back to the APC, so be it.”
The full statement, signed by Bayo Onanuga, reiterated that President Tinubu expects the new appointees to serve with dedication and a sense of duty, focusing on excellence and patriotism in their roles.
