Tinubu orders probe into soldiers’ killing in Borno army base attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the terror attack on a Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, which claimed six soldiers.

The dawn attack on January 4, 2025, has sparked renewed calls for vigilance and proactive measures against insurgency in the region.

In a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as a cornerstone of the nation’s fight for security.

“Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered,” Tinubu said.

While commending the Armed Forces for their swift response, Tinubu lauded the military’s air component for its decisive retaliatory strikes, which neutralized numerous terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to escape.

“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security.

“Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians,” the President remarked.

In addition to ordering an investigation, Tinubu directed the military to escalate its efforts by taking the war to the camps of bandits and terrorists.

He particularly urged intensified operations in the Northwest, where criminal elements continue to terrorize villagers.

“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” he assured the armed forces.

Extending condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, President Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, assured that the men who sacrificed their lives in defending the nation will forever be honoured and remembered.

He appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts to restore peace and security in the country.

“Together, we can support our security forces in achieving the peace and security our nation deserves,” he stated.
