Tinubu Restricts Ministers, officials to 3-vehicle convoy

President Bola Tinubu has announced new cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing government expenditure, limiting ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

This directive emphasizes a strict adherence to resource management in his administration.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Thursday, it was highlighted that “No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.”

This step is part of Tinubu’s broader initiative to streamline government operations and curb unnecessary expenses.

Additionally, the President has mandated that these officials can only have a maximum of five security personnel.

“The security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer,” Onanuga detailed, adding that “No additional security personnel will be assigned.”

To facilitate these changes, Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to coordinate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess and implement suitable reductions in their vehicle and personnel deployments.

“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes,” Onanuga noted, reflecting the administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.

This latest directive follows earlier measures introduced in January, when Tinubu reduced his entourage for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and limited local trip attendees to 25.

Vice President Kashim Shettima’s entourage was also trimmed to five officials for international travel and 15 for domestic trips.

These initiatives signal a focused effort by President Tinubu to enhance the efficiency of government operations while addressing public concerns over government spending.
