Tinubu Writes NASS, Requests Approval for Supplementary Budget for the FCT

President Bola Tinubu has formally approached both chambers of the National Assembly seeking approval for an additional supplementary statutory budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The request was communicated through separate letters read during the plenary session on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Abbas Tajudeen in the House of Representatives. Notably, the letters did not specify the proposed amount for the supplementary budget.

Earlier, on June 6, the House of Representatives passed a supplementary budget of N98.5 billion for the FCT Administration. NaijaTimesUSA recently reported that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved several memos from the FCT ministry, including contracts for constructing Judges Quarters in Katampe and an access road from Ring Road 1 by N16 Shehu Shagari Way to the Judges Quarters.

In his letter, President Tinubu stated, “I write in accordance with the provisions of Section 121 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to forward herewith an additional Supplementary Budget Proposal for the FCTA for consideration and passage by the House of Representatives.”

He emphasized that the proposal has been crafted based on the FCTA’s reviewed revenue and expenditure forecasts and is aligned with the fiscal and developmental policies of the federal government, as well as the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of his administration.

“With it, the FCTA continues to prioritize improvement of human capital and infrastructure within the Federal Capital Territory,” he added.

Tinubu expressed confidence in the legislative process, stating, “While I trust that the House of Representatives will in their usual expeditious manner consider and approve the 2024 Supplementary Budget Proposal of the FCTA, please accept, Rt. Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration and regards.”
