A massive billboard promoting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027 has been spotted along the busy Area One area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The billboard, which features an image of Tinubu holding his wife, Remi, in a loving embrace, carries the inscription “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 Initiative.”
Despite Tinubu not making an official announcement about running for a second term, this billboard has triggered mixed reactions, particularly from passersby and commuters along the road.
Mounted close to the Velodrome of the National Stadium, the billboard is sponsored by a group called “Dark Matters,” and it comes just over a year after Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s president on May 29, 2023.
While some of his supporters welcome the early campaign, many Nigerians are condemning it due to the current economic situation, which they believe has deteriorated under his administration.

The president’s policies, particularly the controversial removal of fuel subsidies that has caused a sharp increase in petrol pump prices, have led to widespread dissatisfaction.
Nigerians have expressed outrage over what they see as a premature re-election campaign, given the severe economic hardship they are facing.
Citizens have taken to social media and other platforms to voice their concerns, with many questioning the president’s ability to steer the country out of its current economic crisis.
“How can we be talking about re-election when people are struggling to buy food and fuel?” one commuter remarked.
With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yet to release a timetable for the 2027 elections, the billboard has only intensified the growing debates about Tinubu’s leadership and the future of his administration.
