A popular media personality, Toke Makinwa, has dismissed rumors of a secret marriage during her 40th birthday Thanksgiving party in Lagos.
On Sunday night, reports emerged claiming that Makinwa had secretly married entertainment guru Farouk Umar at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island.
The rumors gained traction after a video of the two, dressed in a white gown and ‘buba and sokoto,’ sharing affectionate moments went viral on social media.
However, during the party, Toke clarified the situation, stating that they are just friends and that Farouk has been there for her during challenging times.
She said, “On Obasanjo’s internet, they said I got married to this guy. This guy is my best friend. Listen, on Toke Makinwa’s internet, they said I married Farouk. Farouk, my friend, ore mi.. this is my nigga and my friend, my brother, who wan marry you. Farouk held me down when there was nobody.”
Toke also reflected on her tumultuous marriage to Maje Ayida, which ended in 2017 due to infidelity allegations.
She expressed gratitude for the strength she found to endure those challenges, recalling that she felt like she would “die” the day her marriage ended.
She thanked her friends for their support during that difficult time, saying, “Jesus, you comforted me when my friends left me. Jesus, you saw me through a divorce. When I thought I was going to die, when I did not know if I was going to wake up the next day, somehow you held me together. Even when I showed a frail faith, you knew I was not frail. Somehow, you made me a tiger. You are the one that liveth. You are the one that will never fail.

“I thank God for all my friends here. I thank God that I am not looking out to look for you guys; I am looking up. I have not been the best of friend for you guys, but somehow, you see something, and I am grateful.”
Additionally, media personality Dorcas Shola Fapson, also known as Ms. DSF, addressed the rumors surrounding Toke Makinwa’s alleged secret wedding to Farouk Umar.
The speculation arose after photos of the pair at an event, which Ms. DSF initially described as a “thanksgiving” ceremony, circulated online, prompting assumptions of a wedding.
Ms. DSF contributed to the rumors with a hint on social media about Makinwa and Umar tying the knot. However, she later clarified the situation in a video message, explaining that her earlier comment was intended as a joke.
She emphasized that the event was not a marriage ceremony but rather a Thanksgiving ahead of Makinwa’s upcoming birthday.
In her video, she stated, “Bloggers, please; I’m just joking. They [Toke Makinwa and Farouk Umar] are not getting married. Toke is just doing Thanksgiving for her birthday.”
