The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto State has upheld the election of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as senator for Sokoto North Senatorial District.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Wamakko of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 election. But his primary opponent and former deputy governor of the state, Manir Dan’iya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenged his victory at the tribunal.

Ruling on the matter on Friday, Justice Josephine Oyefeso, chairperson of the panel, dismissed Dan’iya’s petition for lack of merit.
Oyefeso said the petitioner was unable to prove the allegations contained in the petition beyond reasonable doubt, as required by law.
